Sound And Performance Ratings: Overall: 8.0 Crispness: 7.0 Alive: 7.5 Ambience: 8.0 Performance: 8.5 Artificial: No Comments: This is one of two original pressings of this bootleg, but with *much* better sound quality. The original was rated "Fair audience" and this one is "Excellent audience". One can hardly hear the audience during the songs and even in between there's only a bit of clapping and screaming. The setlist is pretty standard for a Joshua Tree concert, but the band were obviously in good shape. The Edge's guitar fails in the middle of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". While he fixes the problem, Bono and Adam keep on going which results in an interesting version of the song. At the beginning of "Out Of Control" Bono introduces René Castro and his group of artists, who then come onstage to spray-paint the backdrop. "Exit" sounds haunting with Adam's heavy bass, and features snippets of The Door's "Riders On The Storm" as well as Van Morrisson's "Gloria". The song sequences right into a very short version of "Silver And Gold". As usual, someone comes onstage to play the guitar on "People Get Ready". Afterwards the guy seems to have problems getting off the stage since Bono has to show him the way back into the audience. "Help" is sung a capella and "Bad" has snippets of Lou Reed's "Walk On The Wild Side". "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" is dedicated to another of the peace-makers, Martin Luther King. During "Bullet The Blue Sky", Bono speaks about San Francisco's art district where he met René Castro. Tonight's performance of "Running To Stand Still" is very emotional, with Bono explaining about the two Dubliners whose true story this song is based upon. "Stand By Me" is played in its entirety, which is very rare. Usually it's only a short version to open a concert. During the song, Bono asks for a few good character references from the audience members since he's scared about going to court over the graffiti-incident. Luckily it never happened. Before "40" Bono holds a lengthy speech about people who disappeared in Central and South America. At one point he gets very angry at an audience member and swears at him, but apologises directly afterwards. It puts a bit of a damper on the end of a good show. Sound quality-wise this is one of the best Joshua Tree bootlegs around. The concert itself is very good too. Too bad Bono can't shut up about the graffiti-incident which happened at the Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco only four days earlier. There are a lot of errors in the track listing. "A Trip Thru Your Wire" should be "Trip Through Your Wires", "Out Of Control" is mislabeled as "Into The Heart" and "Running Or Without You" is in fact "Running To Stand Still". This is one of two original pressings on this label. © 1999 "For Love Or Money ? - A Guide To U2 Bootleg CDs" and Sascha Kremer Please note!
